PLANNING AN UNCONVENTIONAL WEDDING

Phase 2: period, timeline, logistics of an unconventional wedding

The operational planning of the event didn't take long.

We spaced out the choice of vendors over about eight months, but there were long periods where we didn't move anything forward due to too much work (we are, after all, very busy photographers!).

We took our time to select the right vendors. This was possible because we chose a weekday in mid-October, avoiding the high-season rush.

Our anniversary day was perfect: it lent itself to the autumn style, it wasn't too hot or too cold. Let's remember that in Calabria summer temperatures are high and beautiful weather lasts until Christmas. I didn't want to see my guests suffering from the heat, with a perpetually beaded mustache of sweat, damp and often smelly hugs.[a capo] Since the event didn't involve anything typically summer, like open-air dinners, the sea, holidays, etc., October was the most suitable month.[

Organizing a wedding where almost every vendor tells you they "have never seen or taken part in a wedding like this" might be discouraging. So, it was essential to start with clear ideas and communicate precisely what we wanted for our day. Above all, ensuring the vendor understood, by providing supporting notes and images for meetings.

] Another winning point was putting the vendors in communication with each other to better organize and resolve any last-minute issues.

Places and Times

Crucial point!

] We wanted to enjoy every moment without wasting time on unnecessary and long transfers. We wanted the guests to always be close to home, free to return and reach the party quickly.

We wanted to take the couple photos on the promenade, which we know is the most versatile spot in the whole province, but also aware that the place is just a background, not the integral part. So, we established the hourly timeline first, based on the layout of the locations.

N.B.: The place for the photos must be organized together with the ceremony times, sunset time, and distance from the venue. If the location is fundamental, if it is highly valued, it is worthwhile to consider choosing the ceremony or reception in that area to ensure the timings are met and you can actually reach it. Do not attempt to fit it in at the last minute in an impossible way (this is a subliminal message).

If this second phase of planning a unconventional wedding was helpful, don't miss the next one: we will discover how to respect your theme and style in every detail (and why it is the key to success).
